Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Directions

Step 1: Sauté the Aromatics

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef

  1. Add 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet.
  2. Cook, stirring and breaking up the meat with a spoon, until it’s browned and cooked through.

Step 3: Combine in the Slow Cooker

  1. Transfer the cooked beef mixture to your slow cooker.
  2. Add the following ingredients:
    • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/2 cup beef broth
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 bay leaf
  3. Stir everything together to combine.

Step 4: Cook the Sauce

  1. Cover the slow cooker with its lid.
  2. Cook on low heat for 6–8 hours or high heat for 3–4 hours. This slow simmering process allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

Step 5: Prepare the Spaghetti

  1. About 20 minutes before serving, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Cook 1 pound of spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Discard the bay leaf from the sauce.
  2. Serve the rich, meaty sauce over the cooked spaghetti.
  3. Top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and enjoy!

  • Vegetarian Option:
    • Replace the ground beef with lentils or your favorite plant-based protein.
    • Use vegetable broth instead of beef broth.
