classic pea salad

Classic pea salad is a simple and delicious side dish that’s often served at picnics, potlucks, and family gatherings. Here’s a basic recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups frozen peas, thawed
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, cubed
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup cooked bacon, chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed peas, cubed cheddar cheese, chopped red onion, and cooked bacon (if using).
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream or Greek yogurt, white vinegar, sugar (if using), salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Pour the dressing over the pea mixture and gently toss until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. Before serving, give the salad a quick stir and taste for seasoning, adding more salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Feel free to customize this recipe to your liking by adding other ingredients such as diced ham, hard-boiled eggs, or chopped celery. You can also adjust the dressing ingredients to suit your taste preferences.
