Loaded Tater Tots with Sausage Gravy

Ingredients

For the Tater Tots:

  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 lb (450g) breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups (480ml) milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup (100g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Preparation

1. Bake the Tater Tots:

  1. Preheat your oven according to the package instructions for the tater tots.
  2. Spread the tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake until crispy, following the package instructions. Season with salt and pepper if desired.

2. Prepare the Sausage Gravy:

  1. In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into crumbles with a spatula.
  2. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to combine. Cook for about 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  3. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and comes to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Reduce the heat to low and keep the gravy warm.

3. Assemble the Loaded Tater Tots:

  1. Once the tater tots are baked and crispy, transfer them to a large serving dish or individual bowls.
  2. Pour the sausage gravy over the top of the tater tots.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the gravy.
  4. Garnish with sliced green onions.

4. Serve:

  1. Serve immediately while the tater tots are hot and the cheese is melted.
