Cream-Filled Donuts

Ingredients:

For the Donuts:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cream Filling:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Sugar Coating:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
    • Add the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
    • Gradually add the remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  3. Shape and Fry the Donuts:
    • Punch down the dough and turn onto a floured surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
    • Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or a round cutter. Re-roll scraps as needed.
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry donuts a few at a time until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  4. Prepare the Cream Filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fill the Donuts:
    • Once the donuts are cool enough to handle, use a piping bag fitted with a small round tip to fill each donut with the cream.
  6. Coat the Donuts:
    • Roll the filled donuts in granulated sugar to coat them evenly.
  7. Serve:
    • Enjoy the cream-filled donuts while they are fresh!
