Instructions for Making Philly Cheese Steak Casserole
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that our casserole will cook evenly and come out perfectly.
- Prepare the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced flank steak and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Once cooked, remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside in a large mixing bowl.
- Sauté the veggies: In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil, sliced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms (if using). Cook until the vegetables are just tender, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce, and cook for an additional 2 minutes. The aroma will be incredible!
- Combine steak and veggies: Add the sautéed vegetables to the bowl with the browned steak. Toss everything together until well mixed.
- Layer in a baking dish: Transfer the steak and vegetable mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer the slices of provolone cheese over the top, covering the mixture evenly.
- Mix eggs and cream: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, and grated Parmesan cheese. Season with a little more salt and pepper. Pour this mixture evenly over the cheese layer in the baking dish.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture has set.
- Cool and serve: Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing. This rest period allows everything to set up nicely, making it easier to serve
