Homemade angel biscuits recipes

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the yeast mixture and buttermilk, and stir until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Using a round biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Cover the biscuits with a clean cloth and let them rise for about 20-30 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  9. Bake the biscuits for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Serve your homemade angel biscuits warm with butter, jam, or gravy.

ENJOY!
