Gooey Butter Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the Filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions:

Making the Crust:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix Crust Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Mix until well combined.
  3. Press into Pan: Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.

Making the Filling:

  1. Beat Cream Cheese: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
  3. Add Butter and Sugar: Add the melted butter and beat until combined. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until smooth and well combined.

Assembling and Baking:

  1. Pour Filling Over Crust: Pour the filling over the crust in the baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  2. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes. The center should be slightly gooey, so do not overbake.
  3. Cool: Allow the cake to cool completely in the baking dish.
  4. Serve: Cut into squares and serve. Optionally, dust with additional powdered sugar before serving.
