Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
Directions
- Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the yeast mixture and buttermilk, and stir until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Using a round biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
- Cover the biscuits with a clean cloth and let them rise for about 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Bake the biscuits for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve your homemade angel biscuits warm with butter, jam, or gravy.
ENJOY!
